How
How the placings are decided
- IndependentEvery placing comes straight off the overall review score, Stars for Your Buck out of 100. Nobody picks a favourite after the fact.
- No brand sees a score earlyBrands find out how their gear scored when you do.
- No brand pays for an awardThere is no entry fee, no sponsorship tier and no paid upgrade. A placing cannot be bought.
- Gifted or loaned, judged the sameGear I bought, gear I was lent and gear I was sent all go through the same tests and the same scoring. The disclosure page explains the general policy. Bought, gifted or loaned, all gear is reviewed on the same terms.
Places 1st to 3rd receive gold, silver and bronze. Places 4th to 6th are Highly Commended. Ties share a place and the next place is skipped, so the number of recipients can vary. Value decides the score, so a cheap thing that overdelivers can beat an expensive one. For example, two products tied 2nd means the next one is 4th. The full method is on How I test.
